Settled in 1644, Reading is located just 12 miles from the center of Boston. It is governed by a representative town meeting model and employs a Town Manager for day to day operations. As of the 2010 census, there were 24,747 people living in Reading.
Reading is known as a great place to live noted for its award-winning schools and outstanding Town services. Reading has a safe, small-town feel with welcoming neighborhoods where people know and care for each other.
The Reading community values and preserves its history and open spaces while actively supporting growth, and a vibrant downtown. Reading has a strong sense of community and a long tradition of civic engagement and volunteerism.
Many of New England’s most popular beaches, mountains, and historic sites are a short drive from Reading.
